Frank Ortiz ~ October's Extraordinary Athlete
Frank Ortiz ~ October's Extraordinary Athlete

Some athletes chase the spotlight. Frank Ortiz just keeps showing up — and that's exactly why October is his month.
A dedicated dog dad and a supporter of veterans (especially those looking for a home loan), Frank has been a fixture at CrossFit Odyssey for over 9 years, joining in July 2017. In a sport where consistency is everything, Frank has logged over 1,000 total visits since he walked through the doors — a number that puts him among the most dedicated athletes in our entire gym community. That's nearly a decade of early alarms, tough Tuesdays, and showing up when it would've been easier not to.

A regular of the 12:30 class, Frank always shows up very early to do mobility work to keep his body ready to perform its best. He even sees our own Dr. Amanda Anderson for nagging knee issues, which has greatly improved his performance. Amanda says he does a fantastic job of doing his PT homework, which has helped him grow as an athlete this past year.

But what makes Frank's story compelling right now isn't just the dedication, the attention to mobility, or the longevity — it's that he's still getting stronger. Over his time here, Frank has notched 75 personal records, and — most impressively — 7 of those have come in just the last three months. Recent PRs on Seated Strict Press, Power Jerk + Split Jerk complexes, and Sumo Deadlift show an athlete who, nearly a decade in, is still finding new gears. Fun fact: Frank's most recent PR streak includes back-to-back jerk complex improvements in the same week — a sign he's been dialing in his overhead technique lately.

That's a powerful message for our community: progress doesn't have an expiration date. Frank isn't a newcomer riding early beginner gains — he's proof that with consistent effort, strength and skill can keep improving for years, not just months.
To top it all off, Frank is always warm and inviting to everyone in the gym. If you're really nice, he might even introduce you to his dogs!
Next time you're in class with Frank, give him a high five. After nine years of showing up and hundreds of PRs, he's not slowing down—so congratulations, Frank, on your Journey to Extraordinary!
